Proud to be an American. Take pride in America. America; land of the free, home of brave. National pride. American pride.
I love this nation. I really do. With it’s beautiful landscapes, opportunities (or what was), the freedoms we have (had) here, and the fact that the Lord planted me here – who WOULDN’T love this nation? We have the best of everything here – deserts, mountains, rivers, lakes, coasts on either side, forests, plains, and everything beautiful God ever created on this earth.
We have amazing fishing and hunting here in this nation and we’ve grown awfully fat and comfortable in this beautiful place. We have stood tall in the face of tyranny. We have been a beacon of light to the oppressed in other parts of the world. We have assisted in overthrowing murderous dictators for the sake of “freedom” for others. What great accolades we can display on our badge of honor!
But have we taken the pride of this nation too far? Have we taken the blessings from God and put them to ourselves as if WE are responsible for those blessings in this nation? I mean, after all, we ARE a superpower, right? We have a MIGHTY military, right? We have dominated the world with our currency right?
Where does God fit in all that?
He doesn’t. Not anymore. At least not in the minds of most American’s.
When this nation was founded, the original “American’s” KNEW what it was like to suffer and struggle. They were humble BECAUSE of that struggle and suffering. Humility often comes from those things because through them, one is forced to realize his own frailty, his own humanness, his own mortality.
Most (especially young) Americans today walk around with a big “S” on their chests (mentally); thinking they are invincible, that no harm can come their way. They live their lives carelessly because they don’t know what it is to suffer, to struggle. Even America’s poorest live far better than others in the world.
Through our nation’s prosperity, we have grown complacent. We lack compassion for others. We seek to serve only ourselves and those closest to us. Don’t deny it because you honestly CAN’T. Even those who give to charity do so in a fashion that is only a small portion of what they could REALLY do. That’s why I laugh at Hollywood elites who claim to be “good people” who donate millions of dollars to charities of their choice, why they themselves live in mansions, have servants, and drive around in cars almost as expensive as most of our homes.
Most Americans have no clue whatsoever what it is like to live in a malaria and AIDS infested, no water having, no food having nation. They sit around eating their potato chips, drinking their beer, in front of their big screen TV’s watching football, or Dancing with the stars. All the while, never once casting a concern that someone in their neighborhood is dying, or suffering through an ugly divorce, or going hungry because of a loss of job or whatever.
My husband used to pay his ex-wife almost $900.00 per month in child support FOR ONE CHILD. (Yes our child support system in this nation is so corrupt, it’s not even funny.) When the economy started going bad, and he worked for the carpenter’s union laying floors, he would find himself laid off for 6 or more months at a time. He would then collect unemployment, because you know, as a member of the union, he wasn’t allowed to go work for a NON-union company. So he was collecting his unemployment of $1,600.00 per month. Our court system here didn’t care if he was unemployed, he still had to pay his full child support amount – leaving us with less than what SHE was getting monthly. He lost his truck, and we almost ended up homeless. Our Christmas was nil, and we couldn’t even afford school clothes for my daughter at one point. Well, as bad as that is, I remember his sister calling me one day. Her and her husband have a computer something or other company here locally. We were discussing financial stuff one day and she was in tears, telling me about how their company was doing so horribly, and they had keep borrowing off their credit cards to survive, all while they lived in this big beautiful house, with a hot tub inside, two dogs, and all the finest things you can imagine in their home….along with new vehicles that were reliable and dependable. All this time she shrugged off our situation, trying to live on 2200.00 a month for half a year, when our RENT was 1,000 a month, Pat had lost his vehicle, we had no credit cards (thankfully) to try to “live off of” and we had no control over his job situation, while they owned their own thriving, yet suffering a temporary downfall business (which is doing great today by the way). I couldn’t believe the nerve and insensitivity.
But this is America. We panic when we lose because we cannot imagine life of loss because we have not suffered great loss – at least not financially. Like I said, even the poorest in this nation live so much better than others in the world.
Another true story – trying to help a friend who couldn’t pay her rent one December due to a loss of a job. Trying to raise money for them – just $1,000, was like pulling teeth. You’d think I was asking others to sign over their first-born to me or something!
But this is America….this is the UGLY America. This is the HAUGHTY, and prideful, stingy, and selfish America. I guess we aren’t so beautiful after all are we? I guess this nation isn’t something to be so “prideful” of, is it?
That’s not to say all American’s are this ugly, but again, YOU KNOW we can ALL do way more for the world than we do – we just decide NOT TO because WE and OUR security, financial or otherwise, are far more important!
Satan’s rebellion is based solely on pride. Pride is one of the deadliest sins. Pride will kill ya. So why do we promote it in this so called “Christian” nation? Look at our schools – promoting themselves with their football teams, school pride….and for what? So their trophies and awards can collect dust and be forgotten 5 years later? We promote “pride” at an early age right in our schools.
Let’s see what the Bible says about Pride:
51 verses in the bible speak directly about the word “pride”…and it’s NEVER in a good fashion. Here are a few of those:
The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.
There they cry out, but He does not answer, Because of the pride of evil men.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.
When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.
In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride, But the lips of the wise will preserve them.
Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
A proud and haughty man— “Scoffer” is his name; He acts with arrogant pride.
When we read the bible, as Christians, should we really go around sporting “Proud to be an American” stickers on our vehicles? When does this turn into idolatry?
America IS HAUGHTY. I remember being shocked years ago the first time I heard that so many nations of the world HATE us. I thought to myself “Why?! Aren’t we great people? Isn’t this a great nation?”
We used to be. We really were. Until we got fat and lazy, and self indulgent. We have forgotten our past. We have forgotten our PLACE under heaven and in this world. And we WILL suffer the judgment for our haughtiness. We will reap the Lord’s wrath for this….it’s pre-destined and historically accurate.
I’m beginning this series on America being the prophesied Babylon of the last days because I believe it’s our duty as Christians to warn of the trouble to come. We ought not fear our government or our military, or what will happen to us financially. What we SHOULD be fearing is the Lord’s anger towards this nation…because it IS coming; as a matter of fact, it’s truly already begun. And if you think God’s judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah was bad, you ain’t seen NOTHING yet!
Which “god” are you serving? Are you spiritually prepared for God’s judgment on this nation? Are your eyes open and do you see? The time quickly approaches.
Be right with the Lord and know whom you will serve….this nation, or God?
Peace to you all, today and every day.
