Christian Responsibilities

JESUS…A SUPERHERO?

NOW I have heard it all…..

Imagine if you will, Batman, Cat Woman, Spiderman etc. in a Christmas church play. Imagine Jesus also being portrayed as a superhero – the SUPREME super hero; better than Batman, Cat Woman, Spider Man, etc….but still on the same plane of existence. Imagine Jesus’ mother Mary portrayed as a mouthy, domineering wife to Joseph.

First glance? It’s….ODD to say the least. But if you really sit down and look at it – it’s a first class blaspheming, defamation-of-Jesus’-character play. And this really DID happen at a church within our nation this past week.

Oh Lord, help us.

First, I would like to say that I understand people don’t have Jesus or His Word completely right. They don’t REVERE Him and His power as they should. Because of this, as in the case of this particular play, we paint Him in a more palatable light for ourselves. But is it how we should be as Christians? Is this how a church should represent Him in the presence of their congregation?

I would also like to say that I know this is a sweeping trend with children. But secular trends don’t make things “right”; or righteous for that matter.

Psalm 71:15
My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.

This play represents the heart of the “believer” who put it all together. This person may be a believer, but if we can tell them by their fruit, this person is certainly NOT a FOLLOWER of Christ, nor do they concern themselves with what they just created within this church and the ramifications therein. NO…..I believe the person that put this play together is SO self-centered and wanted all attention on THEM.

Where’s the humility?

Many people view Jesus as a mythical character because they don’t truly have a real relationship with Him as would other faithful followers. As I said in a Facebook post the other day on my personal page:

People completely undermine the power of Christ today. I think people believe he is a myth like Santa. Take it from one who knows Him; He is FAR from a myth!

Isn’t that true though? When people pray, do they REALLY KNOW who it is they are praying to? When people hear the word “HOLY”, do they REALLY understand what that word means?

I think this was all revealed in the above mentioned play; how some of the people involved in the creation of this church ensemble really view Christ….

they DON’T.

At least not how the Bible paints Him out to be. And I can understand the whole “let’s make it fun for the kids” thing….but is this acceptable in God’s eyes?

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Let me point out the errors in this play:

1. Superheroes DO NOT EXIST. Batman, Cat Woman, Spider Man, etc – these are FICTIONAL characters, made up by man, to entertain the human dreams and desires of power beyond all others. IT’S IDOLATRY.

2. To put these alongside Jesus in a play, portraying how they wish to destroy Jesus – the REAL SUPERHERO – is bringing Jesus, our Lord and Savior, down to a fictional state. If He can be compared as a higher form of a fictional character, isn’t that insinuating He too is fictional? THIS IS BLASPHEMY.

Furthermore, to remove the REAL POWER of Satan (who wished to destroy Jesus) by portraying him and evil as fictional cartoon characters is a VERY dangerous move by this church and one that could unintentionally invoke spiritual things within that church and it’s congregation that aren’t welcomed.

and lastly
3. Mary was chosen by God to bare HIS Son because of her virtue and righteousness. She held something within her that no one else in her time did, thus why she was chosen. To portray Jesus’ mother in this play as an overbearing, loudmouthed, domineering, man-bashing woman AGAIN, removes the biblical story and turns it into some secular modern, sin filled, entertainment venue. THIS IS HERETICAL, FALSE TEACHING.

Guess what folks…I guess we don’t need TV’s anymore…we can just go to one of our local churches and watch all sorts of entertainment within them…from comedians, to secular musicians who CLAIM they are Christians, and now secular Christmas plays with fictional superheros. WOW.

This is heretical. It’s blasphemous. It’s disgusting. This particular church should be VERY ashamed of themselves for allowing such a play to infiltrate the walls of that church. An unholy display of unholy man and his desires – removing the absolute powerful and beautiful deity of Christ. SHAME ON YOU.

Many people today don’t understand what the church was intended for.
Many churches today have become lesser forms of local stadiums and theaters….seeking to entertain the masses to bolster their numbers and profit margins. Many churches today don’t teach the gospel in context and are dragging many seekers straight to hell with them through deception and lies. It’s a growing cancer in this nation that needs to first be exposed, then removed.

The NT church is to feed the flock – those already saved – to strengthen them and send them out to share the gospel; not bring in the goats with entertainment. What was the real intent of this play?

Jesus is NOT a fictitious superhero. He is NOT a made up being, who can fly around, cast webs, and beat up criminals. His mother was not Peg Bundy or Roseanne Barr. So why did this church portray them both as such?

If this were my church? Whoever put this play/show together would never again be allowed to portray such blasphemy within that house of God. It appears the person who put this show together needs to go work at a high school drama club because THIS type of thing does NOT belong in church.

Matthew 15: 16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

We must SERIOUSLY PRAY for this church and it’s congregation. We must pray the Lord gives them the strength and courage to STAND against such unholy displays of the greatest gift our Creator gave us. We must pray that the Lord reveals to them discernment in all things; to show them the error in this and whatever else people within may be conjuring up. I pray this church does the right thing regarding this play and expels a deep and sincere apology to it’s members for the blaspheming that took place within those walls.

1 Peter 5: 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Peace to you ALL, today and every day.
